The F4U-1 was never called by the unglamorous nickname of the "Hog."
It's most common nicknames were "The Bent-Wing Bird," "The Ensign Eliminator," and "The Whistling Death."
"Hog" was reserved for the C-130 Hercules, F-84 Thunderjet, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and Bell UH-1 Iroquois
